Chesterfield kept their play-off hopes alive following a 4-1 League Two win over Morecambe, thanks to goals from Will Grigg, Ash Palmer, Michael Olakigbe and Tom Naylor.

Kyle McFadzean headed a fraction wide from Dylan Duffy’s cross, while Lee Angol went close for the visitors before Chesterfield took the lead.

The goal came in time added on at the end of the half when Palmer’s header was blocked and the ball was only cleared as far as Grigg, who swivelled and fired the into the net.

Duffy put an effort just wide early in the second half after some good build-up play from Olakigbe.

Chesterfield substitute Michael Jacobs had a shot saved by goalkeeper Ryan Schofield before the visitors equalised, Jordan Slew scoring just before the hour mark with a far-post header from David Tutonda’s cross.

The hosts went back in front two minutes later when Palmer tapped in at the far post following Liam Mandeville’s corner.

Olakigbe added a third with a close-range finish from Ryan Colclough’s low cross, with 15 minutes remaining.

While Naylor completed the scoring – five minutes later – as he nodded in after Mandeville’s free-kick was headed across goal by Palmer.
