Grimsby slipped out of the Sky Bet League Two play-off positions after a goalless draw at MK Dons.

With Salford beating Colchester, a draw saw the Mariners fall out of the top seven ahead of next weekend’s season finale on goal difference after they failed to leave Stadium MK with three points.

MK Dons were using their final home game of the season to celebrate club captain Dean Lewington, who announced his retirement from playing earlier this month and made his first appearance since November.

The hosts had a decent chance when Connor Lemonheigh-Evans’ shot was well denied by Grimsby goalkeeper Jake Eastwood.

Grimsby thought they had scored when Danny Rose touched in Denver Hume’s cross, but the offside flag interrupted his celebrations.

Rose had another goal disallowed just after half-time for a foul on Dons goalkeeper Craig MacGillivray, before Eastwood made saves to deny Lemonheigh-Evans and Scott Hogan.

Grimsby’s Kieran Green saw a free-kick strike a post late on, while the visitors’ Evan Khouri and the Dons’ Laurence Maguire both missed chances for a stoppage-time winner.
